“If you do something and it turns out to be pretty good, then you should go do something else wonderful, not dwell on it for too long. Just figure out what’s next” Steve Jobs
Yes, life keeps you on your toes always… There is no end to it really unless you call it retirement. If you have done something good, then the question is what’s next…
The line of progression is often not straight. Sometimes, you will need to take a step back to take another step forward. Sometimes, you need to make a move sideways to keep going.
This is why career decisions and moves will boggle everyone at some point, even if they are successful in what they do. At some point, you will be stuck and wonder “What now?”. When you have been successful, this is a quality problem to have, but still a problem nonetheless…
What happens if you don’t push yourself to step up to something new? You may choose to simmer in your previous success and stagnate there… Not a bad life to have really, but you will definitely get bored and feel uninspired while your competition invigorated with motivation to achieve the next goal will surpass you in a matter of time!
Yes, such is life… you snooze and you lose… which is why this quote from Steve Jobs is so relevant!
Take the technology world as a good example… Sony used to be one of the biggest and most powerful players, Nokia too… What happened to them when new technology came up and totally made them redundant and obsolete in some of their products?
You just cannot let yourself go and not aim for something different and more. Staying still is moving backwards effectively as everyone and everything else progress. Do it for yourself and your sanity really.
